FAQs

Who can benefit from therapy?

Therapy can benefit anyone looking to better understand themselves, improve self-esteem, manage emotional challenges, or navigate life’s difficulties. Whether you're dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or simply seeking personal growth, therapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings. We work with teenagers, and young adults, offering tailored support to meet each individual’s unique needs.

do i need a referral for therapy or an assessment?

You generally don’t need a referral to see a psychologist for therapy. However, a referral from a GP is required if you want to claim the Medicare rebate under the Better Access initiative. For assessments, a referral might be helpful in some cases but is not required.

how long is are sessions?

Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes. Assessments can vary in duration, but most assessments can take up to 4 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.

are therapy/assessments confidential?

Yes, all sessions are strictly confidential. We adhere to Australian privacy laws and ethical guidelines to ensure your personal information is protected. However, there are some exceptions under mandatory reporting laws, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. In these cases, we are required to take appropriate steps to ensure your safety and well-being. We will discuss this with you further in your initial appointment.

I’m not sure what assessment i need?

If you're unsure about which assessment is best for you or your child, we’re here to help you figure that out. Please contact us, and together we will help guide you through the process and ensure you get the support you need.

what is the difference between therapy and an assessment?

Therapy is an ongoing process that supports individuals in understanding and managing their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. It involves regular sessions with a psychologist to explore challenges, build coping strategies, and work toward goals over time.

Assessments, on the other hand, are a structured and time-limited process used to explore specific concerns—such as attention difficulties, learning challenges, or developmental differences. They involve 1–2 sessions, followed by a comprehensive report and feedback session. Assessments can help provide clarity, diagnosis (e.g., ADHD, dyslexia), and tailored recommendations for home, school, or work.

do you offer online therapy?

Yes, we offer Telehealth (online) sessions and/or in person sessions for therapy. Please contact us to discuss your options.

How long will I need therapy?

The length of therapy depends on your personal goals and the challenges you're facing. Some people may benefit from a few sessions, while others may require ongoing support. We work with you to ensure therapy is aligned with your needs.

what can i expect in my first therapy session?

In the first session, we will discuss your goals, explore any challenges you're facing, and get to know your personal story. It’s an opportunity for us to understand how we can best support you, and for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process.

Can I choose the type of therapy I want to try?

Yes! We offer different therapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, and Schema Therapy. Based on your needs, we’ll work together to choose the approach that will help you reach your therapy goals. Your voice is important to us.

What if I don’t feel ready to start therapy?

It's completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy. If you’re unsure, you can always contact us for a brief consultation to ask questions or learn more about the process. We’re here to help you feel empowered to take the next step.
