Cognitive (IQ) Assessments

A cognitive assessment provides a detailed understanding of how a person thinks, reasons, remembers information and processes new information.

Cognitive assessments can be useful across the lifespan. You may be seeking greater clarity about your own cognitive profile, wondering whether your child may be gifted, exploring learning or developmental concerns, or requiring assessment where there is a question of intellectual disability or support needs.

Assessment may also provide important clinical information where cognitive functioning needs to be understood for NDIS or other support purposes. Where intellectual disability is being considered, cognitive assessment forms one component of a broader assessment and is considered alongside adaptive functioning and developmental information.

Cognitive assessments are available for children, adolescents and adults and include standardised cognitive testing, review of relevant background and collateral information, a comprehensive psychological report and a feedback session to discuss the findings and recommendations.

What does a Cognitive (IQ) Assessment Involve?

A cognitive assessment is designed to answer a specific question about how you or your child thinks and processes information. Standardised testing is considered alongside relevant developmental, educational, occupational and contextual information so that results can be understood within the context of the individual — rather than interpreted as numbers in isolation.
