Specific Learning Disorder Assessments

A Specific Learning Disorder assessment, also known as a psycho-educational assessment can help explain why a child may be putting in significant effort at school but still finding reading, writing or mathematics harder than expected.

The assessment looks at both how your child thinks and learns and how they are performing academically, helping to identify patterns of strengths and difficulty and determine whether criteria are met for a Specific Learning Disorder such as dyslexia, dysgraphia or dyscalculia.

Assessments are available for children and adolescents and include cognitive and academic testing, review of relevant background information, a comprehensive psychological report and personalised recommendations for school and home.

What does a Learning Disorder Assessment involve?

A learning assessment is more than a single test score. It brings together your child’s developmental and educational history, cognitive profile, academic achievement and information from the people who know them best.

The aim is to understand why learning may be difficult, where the difficulty is occurring, and what support is likely to be most useful moving forward. Learn more about the assessment process below.
